'The president has been done harm by a lie, by the media, political forces and intelligence agencies'


ARTICLE STATES, IN PART:

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., is urging President Trump to meet with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to once and for all put to rest the “lie” that the administration colluded with Russia to rig the 2016 presidential election.

“Determining whether Russia had colluded with the Trump campaign, by supposedly breaking into the Democratic National Committee and leaking those emails — that’s the pivotal issue in front of us,” Rohrabacher told WND. “A really significant factor in determining the truth – what the reality is – is being totally ignored: Julian Assange actually has that first-hand information.

“There are very powerful interests at play that have lied to undermine the outcome of an American election, repeated lied and misled the American people, in a very dramatic way.”

Julian Assange Offers U.S. Government Proof Russia Wasn’t Source of Democratic Party Leaks, Says WSJ

According to the Wall Street Journal, Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of California spoke by phone on September 13th with U.S. President Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff, General John Kelly, aiming to transmit to President Trump, from Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, a trade of ‘proof’ of Russian non-involvement in the transmission to the public of internal Democratic Party information during the 2016 Presidential contest with Hillary Clinton, in return for the U.S. Government’s stopping its efforts to prosecute Mr. Assange.

Assange wanted finally to become freed from his years-long virtual house-arrest inside Ecuador’s London Embassy, by the United States Government efforts to force him to be tried in U.S. courts. So, he wants to offer this trade in which Assange would provide to the White House physical ‘proof’ that Russia had nothing to do with the Democratic Party leaks from (or what Russia’s enemies call ‘hacks’ into) Democratic Party computers, which produced the revelations which Hillary Clinton says cost her the 2016 election.

According to the WSJ report, General Kelly refused to inform President Trump of the offer.

The news-report was published on Friday night, September 15th, in the Wall Street Journal, and headlined “GOP Congressman Sought Trump Deal on WikiLeaks, Russia: California’s Dana Rohrabacher asks for pardon of Julian Assange in return for evidence Russia wasn’t source of hacked emails”. It said:

“Mr. Kelly didn’t make the president aware of Mr. Rohrabacher’s message, and Mr. Trump doesn’t know the details of the proposed deal.”

However, the news-report didn’t make clear whether Mr. Trump is even aware that Congressman Rohrabacher had attempted to communicate to the President the offer that Mr. Assange was wanting to communicate. Perhaps if Mr. Trump reads the Wall Street Journal, he’ll learn that Mr. Assange had wanted to offer this deal.

According to the WSJ’s report, Congressman Rohrabacher was apparently so desperate to communicate Mr. Assange’s offer to the President, that Rohrabacher even asked Kelly if Rohrabacher would be allowed to communicate the offer to CIA Director Mike Pompeo, an anti-Russia hardliner, for transmission through Pompeo, to the President. Apparently, Mr. Kelly stovepipes to the President only information that Kelly wants the President to know, but Trump can, on his own, learn of other information if he sees or hears it in the newsmedia.

The WSJ’s report also noted the background of the alleged Assange offer:

Mr. Rohrabacher, who has long been a pro-Russia voice in Congress, traveled to London in August to meet with Mr. Assange, who has been living in Ecuador’s embassy since 2012 to avoid arrest and extradition to Sweden on allegations of sexual assault. Mr. Rohrabacher’s travel wasn’t paid for by the U.S. House of Representatives and wasn’t an official government trip, aides said.

The Swedish investigation into Mr. Assange ended in May, but he remains in the embassy to avoid arrest and extradition by the U.S.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's lawyer stated that there should be an effective judicial review as to the legality, proportionality and necessity of US foreign surveillance.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) allowing for the surveillance of digital communications of foreigners overseas deprives non-US citizens of the right to privacy and due process protections, thus increasing the possibility of abuse, the lawyer, who led the case of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange before the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, told Sputnik.

In a letter dated September 7, US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and National Intelligence Director Dan Coats wrote to US congressional members, calling on them to permanently reauthorize FISA, which is set to expire at the end of the year. The US officials stressed in a letter that FISA was vital to US national security.

On Tuesday, The New York Times newspaper reported citing a newly declassified document that in 2011, the NSA examined 45,359 intercepts gathered by the program in just 48 hours.

"The mere fact that an individual is not an American citizen does not in itself constitute a basis for surveillance, or for depriving them of their fundamental right to privacy. The act removes important due process protections from the surveillance of non-Americans, for example, the need for prior judicial authorization, and the right to seek a remedy. The covert and unchallengeable nature of such surveillance gives rise, in itself, to the possibility of abuse," Melinda Taylor said.

urveillance should only be initiated once there are reasonable grounds to suspect that the targeted individual is engaged in serious criminal activity, and that the surveillance is a necessary and proportionate measure under the circumstances, the lawyer added.

"This assessment should be made by an entity which has sufficient independence from the executive. There must also be adequate safeguards to protect individuals from the possibility of abuse… There should be effective judicial review as to the legality, proportionality and necessity of the surveillance," Taylor pointed out.

It would be fundamentally illegal to give intelligence services an open ended blank check to conduct surveillance against certain groups or entities, Taylor noted.

FISA was created in the 1970s to authorize electronic surveillance and physical search of persons engaged in espionage or international terrorism against the United States on behalf of foreign powers. The FISA Amendments Act of 2008 reportedly authorized a form of the warrantless surveillance program ex-US President George Bush's administration secretly created after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

In 2013, Edward Snowden, a former Central Intelligence Agency employee and former contractor for the US government, leaked classified documents exposing mass surveillance by US authorities around the globe. Russia granted the whistleblower a temporary asylum after he fled the United States.

The US classified documents revealed by Snowden prompted criticism from governments as well as human right advocates and activist groups doubting the US authorities' effectiveness in detecting terrorists. For example, just in December 2012, the US National Security Agency (NSA) gathered on an average day metadata from some 15 million telephone connections and 10 million Internet datasets in Europe, according to media reports citing the revealed documents.

OurMine, self-styled White Hat hackers, took control of the WikiLeaks home page this morning, the website run by hermit and believed to be tech savvy having a small number of fans in national security world. If you missed them, then the group OurMine offers the white hat services charging some fee at the time of carrying out the black hat attacks on tech companies and personalities.

When website was accessed from few locations on Thursday morning, the message was visible. Theverge.com posted on August 31st, 2017, stating that few visitors of the site are greeted with the message stating that the account of WikiLeak was suspended at the time of publication.

Last year, the group of OurMine hacked the Twitter account of CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey along with Quora page of CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai. OurMine group was further responsible for the hacks which targeted websites of BuzzFeed and Variety, after an article was published by the news site claiming to have exposed one of their members. The group of OurMine was known for commandeering accounts after exploiting the outdated passwords, they hacked the social media accounts of HBO in the beginning of this month.

Already, OurMine has decent list of victims; in fact OurMine group declared to the whole world that Dadada password was used by Mark Zuckerberg without having much choice. OurMine group further made HBO as well as its show regarding swords, boobs, and dragons look very silly, and made us excited regarding leaks of Curb Your Enthusiasm of Larry David.

It is the most recent in a series of high-profile but eventually low-impact attacks of OurMine group, who first came to fame after social media accounts hacking of a series of tech titans in 2016 summer.

Those hacks most of the times followed unchanged template: finding the re-used passwords in data breach which was released earlier, and then testing them in numerous services as possible till finding one which works. In recent times, they took control over the Twitter accounts of HBO, as they were in the middle of a separate attack of ransomware.

A spokesperson of WikiLeaks didn't immediately responded to the request for any comment on apparent hack, however the Task Force of WikiLeaks, the semi-official account that was linked to this group, called the article "fake news".

PandoDaily has a fascinating story from Peiter Zatko who had known Julian Assange way back in the day, and last ran into him at Chaos Congress in 2009 (Wikileaks was going strong at this point, but it was well before the release of the "Collateral Murder" video, the accusations of rape, the Ecuadorian embassy asylum and all that). They caught up over dinner and Assange revealed to Zatko how the US government had funded and then shut down his research into a crypto-file system which would allow you to reveal a way to decrypt it that just showed innocuous files, so you could be "forced" to decrypt something without actually revealing anything. Of course, as we pointed out not that long ago, the NSA has a bit of a history of trying to stifle crypto research if it fears that the crypto might be too good, and it sounds like Assange was a victim of that, despite not being American nor working at an American university:

Julian told me his graduate work had been funded by a US government grant, specifically NSA and DARPA money, which was supposed to be used for fundamental security research. It was a time when the Bush Administration and Department of Defense were seen to be classifying a great deal of fundamental research and pulling back on university funds. These universities were getting the message that they could no longer work on the research they had been conducting, and what they had already done was classified. In a Joseph Heller-like twist, they weren’t even allowed to know what it was they had already discovered.

According to Julian, the US government cast such a wide net that even general scientific research, whose output had always been published openly, was swept up in America’s secrecy nets. As you can imagine this did not sit well with Julian, because his work had also been funded by one of these fundamental research funding lines and yanked.

Zatko notes that this experience is a big part of what drove Assange to dedicate his life to openness and helping to expose organizations that tried to keep the public ignorant of important things. While the crux of the article is that the US government inadvertently "created" Wikileaks, that seems like a bit of an exaggeration. However, it is somewhat interesting to know that Assange's work was, at one point, funded by the US government.

I was in Germany for Chaos Congress 2009, a hacker conference, and after attending a series of talks I was headed back to my hotel when I spotted Julian Assange. This predated my working as a project manager at DARPA as a hacker-in-residence, if you will. It was also before Wikileaks released the video “Collateral Murder” and hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables, the Swedish rape allegations, and Julian ending up a virtual prisoner, holed up in Ecuador’s diplomatic mission in London.

Given that I hadn't seen Julian in more than a decade, I greeted him, and we agreed to grab some dinner and catch up. After reminiscing about the old gang – he and I had been part of the same hacker "milieu," as Julian would say – I asked why he had skipped out on the hacking scene to form Wikileaks.

Last I heard Julian had left to study mathematics and physics at the University of Melbourne. He was working on a "duress" based crypto-file system, also known as the "rubber hose" file system. The theory was that if your disk was encrypted and someone threatened to beat you with a rubber hose unless you decrypted it, you could fool him by decrypting a secondary innocuous file system without revealing the true content of your still cloaked files. The baddies would be convinced they had what they wanted and let you go while you would keep your secrets. (There’s a problem with this, of course. If the baddies think you have a rubber hose file system, even if you decrypt your drive they may think you’re holding out on them and continue to beat the crap out of you. But I digress.)

Julian told me his graduate work had been funded by a US government grant, specifically NSA and DARPA money, which was supposed to be used for fundamental security research. It was a time when the Bush Administration and Department of Defense were seen to be classifying a great deal of fundamental research and pulling back on university funds. These universities were getting the message that they could no longer work on the research they had been conducting, and what they had already done was classified. In a Joseph Heller-like twist, they weren't even allowed to know what it was they had already discovered.

According to Julian, the US government cast such a wide net that even general scientific research, whose output had always been published openly, was swept up in America’s secrecy nets. As you can imagine this did not sit well with Julian, because his work had also been funded by one of these fundamental research funding lines and yanked.

So here you have a non-US citizen at a foreign university doing graduate work studies, and the United States government came barreling in and not only snuffed out the funding and killed his studies, it also barred him from knowing what it was he had been funded to research.

It was at that moment, Julian told me, that he decided he would devote himself to exposing organizations that attempted to keep secrets and withhold information in an effort keep the masses ignorant and disadvantaged.

So you see, depending on who you ask, the US government actually helped create of Wikileaks. And the rest, as they say, is history.

In my humble opinion, I think that the above article, whose author is Julian Assange's friend who had worked for the US government, as the Part 2 posted article indicates, somehow puts this undisputed NSA/DARPA connection with Assange on a more exonerating light.

As noted, the article was written by Assange's friend who had revealed the Assange NSA/DARPA connection and who, by his association with Assange, he ended up being accused of the same accusations as Assange was. It follows that he also had a motive to make claims, and / or a modified presentation of his past claims, in a manner that would serve to exonerate both, himself and Assange. As a result of their mutual motive to engage in damage control, one could argue that this article, which made minor but clever and significant modifications, was a strategic damage control move, which, as it appears to me, has achieved its intended purpose to exonerate both of them.

I have posted it into this Wikileaks collection in the past, along with other referenced material. I do agree with most of their positions, however, this NSA /DARPA connection can be viewed as a strategic damage control move ONLY because of Assange's suspect behavior in collective matters such as:

(a) the odd, degrading and suspect comments he made in order to cover up the fact that the 911 attacks were an inside job and courtesy of the US Government in concert with Zionists,

(b)-the odd and suspect comments he made to cover up the truth behind the annual Bilderberg meetings of the corrupt ruling Elite,

(c)-the odd and suspect actions he engaged in and comments he made after October 2016 and during the Reddit Ask Me Anything interview,

(d)-the suspect "Limited Hangout" practices that he appeared to have been engaging in,

(e)-the protective disclosures he made on Israel,

(f)-the Wikileaks Board and funding information,...etc...
